Eye Care Assistance Patient Sends Holiday Greetings
5-year-old Alicyn was born with a chromosome disorder called 1P36 chromosome deletion syndrome, or monosomy 1p36. One of the many common features of this disorder is the occurance of visual defects.
Alicyn was born with cataracts and had them removed at 3 and 4 months of age. However, today she must wear contact lenses to correct her vision.

As an infant, Ali was adopted. Her adoptive mother, Jolene called the Foundation when their family ran into a problem regarding Ali's corrective contacts. Although their daughter has health insurance, the company only covers the cost of one pair of lenses. Since Ali is only 5 years old, she had difficulties with the lenses popping out of her eyes, and lost her only pair of contacts. Unfortunately, her family could not afford to replace the contact lenses without the help of their health insurance.

Through the Foundation's Eye Care Assistance program, we were able to provide a new pair lenses to Ali. Recently, our program coordinator received a holiday card from Ali and Jolene thanking us again for the replacement. The card reads:

"Miss Ali says "Thank You" so much for her contacts. She sees so much better in school with both instead of one. God bless you and you organization for the help you all give to children.

Merry Christmas,
Ali and Jolene"
